Bug: VVVVVV Secret Lab crashes after first couple of screens

What happened?

I reached the Secret Lab in VVVVVV, and after I am able to control the character, the game crashes when I visit the screen to the right or the top (see screenshot below). It did not show any error message.

Additionally, when choosing the Secret Lab option from the main menu, the game crashes.

What were the expected results?

I am able to access the Secret Lab from the main menu or by talking to Violet in-game without the game crashing.
