RuSTy while a nice name has more relation to Rust than it does to the IEC61131-3 Languages, or even just ST
We need a name that better reflects the goal of the project, not the way it is being implemented

A suggestion is to look into the history of PLCs and pay homage to the founders.

My proposal here is Odo for Odo Josef Struger
Odo is also a good fit as a (fictional) shapeshifter, much like a multi-language compiler.

Laplace might also be a good name (laPLaCe hides PLC in it) but might be harder to use, unless we eventually just call the binary plc and the project Laplace.

Why would you call the compiler, "PLC" calling a runtime "PLC" might make sense, but the compiler?

(I am lurkinf and follow development, but havent actually downloaded it yet and tried it)

The idea is to get name that users can remember, odo will not tell them much at first glance. rusty is not really expressive since it tells you how the compiler was written and not what it does. plc (can be short for Programmable Logic Compiler instead of Computer?) makes more sense here IMHO It's also better than plcc which can stand for "Progmrammable Logic Computer Compiler" because you know people will always forget that extra c it is not intuitive.

PLC stands for "Programmable Logic Controller"

I guess "Programmable Logic Compiler" works, I think like "Programmable Logic Controller Compiler" plcc better though. But I don't have an logic argument for it other than, people will assume PLC stands for Programmable Logic Controller" and not "Programmable Logic Compiler"

Just like people assume Ethernet/IP stands for "Ethernet Internet Protocal", and not what it actually stands for which is "Ethernet Industrial Protocal"

Acronyms shouldn't be reused in the same Domain, it gets confusing.

Having said, i don't have a better permanent name for it. But i think "plc" is more confusing than rusty was, and it has nothing to do with the name of the project.

Why not "rusty-compile", until you guys come up with a better permanent name for the whole project? Or maybe "crusty" because that is a little funny, and it's like "cpython", or "rustc".

Should crusty be the permanent name? No because it should reflect the name of the of the project.

I just realized I am "bike shedding" here so I will shut up.
