First things first, this is an amazing addition to the tab groups and it works wonderfully. Great job :)

If you open a link by middle-clicking it, the browser opens it in the background and the associated tab group eats it up. If this tab is collapsed it is hard to determine which tab was just opened. Would it be possible to promote a just-opened tab by either waiting a few seconds before adding it to the dedicated tab group or something along those lines where a tab stays ungrouped or added to an always-displayed group and only added to its dedicated group when the user focuses this tab (clicks on it)?

Hey Jan, thanks for the suggestion, glad you like the extension. :)

What you describe would be technically possible, but I'm not sure whether I like the described behavior. Consistency (all tabs are always in their configured groups based on their URL) is a major goal of this extension, and having a tab go in a different or no group at all based on something other than the URL would violate that goal significantly.

So to be very blunt, I'm not too positive that this feature will get implemented.

That said: I've been playing with the idea of something like an "advanced mode" for this extension for a while. It would be a mode that is not restricted to group tabs by their URLs, and rather gives power users and developers opportunities to use regular expressions or maybe even custom JavaScript code to assign tabs. What you describe could be part of such a feature.
However, this is nothing more than a vague thought at the moment and while I'm not finding much time to devote to the extension at the moment, it wouldn't be the next feature to implement anyway — it would be quite a substantial addition and thus require a lot of groundwork to be done, and there's a couple of other features I want to implement rather sooner than later, before that.
