Throughout our research, we come across resources around podcast hosting, which we collect here. We mostly focus on open source software and discussions about the Podcast ecosystem, but also include other resources. If you have any suggestions, please let us know!
Other entities have previously worked on specifications for podcasting. We list them here for reference.
- Open Downloads Specification: Open Downloads Specification (ODL) is a specification for podcast download tracking. It is a simple JSON format that can be used to track downloads of podcast episodes.
- RSS Namespace Extension for Podcasting (Tag Specification): A holistic RSS namespace for podcasting that is meant to synthesize the fragmented world of podcast namespaces.
- backtracks/open-podcast-analytics: Open podcast analytics specification by backtracks. A unified spec for providing an open and common interface for sending podcast analytics related events.
- IAB Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines: The IAB Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines 2.1 are the result of the Podcast Technical Working Group’s efforts to provide clarity in the podcast marketplace by developing a common language around measurement.
- National Public Radio (NPR) R.A.D. (Remote Audio Data): NPR's Remote Audio Data (RAD) is a standard for podcast analytics. It is a JSON format embedded into mp3 files as ID3-tags that can be used to track downloads of podcast episodes.
