FLINT is a modular tool that supports better land management and helps reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide and allows multiple models and data required to better understand land management to be brought together in one place. This project is for the implementation of new models to monitor land sector GHG emissions and support sustainable land management. There are already several existing models that have been attached, but many more are required to make the system complete. This project involves specifically implementing the agricultural soils model that is used to estimate non-CO2 GHG emissions from agricultural practices.
The following events and module were created to simulate the Tier 1: Nitrogen emissions as mentioned in the IPCC documentation
- Organic and Synthetic fertilizer events
- Plant and Harvest events
- Manure Management events
- Land-use Change module
- New Transforms
- Users might need to simulate the module using a different data structure. This will create inconsistencies when simulating. So, we can create first-timer issues for these data inconsistencies and attract new developers to solve them and understand how FLINT works.
- Implementing the Tier 2 and Tier 3 modules for Nitrogen emission from agricultural soils.
This past summer contributing have been immensely fun for me. I've had the opportunity to work along with some insanely kind and supportive people. I'm wholeheartedly grateful to Guy and Rob for accepting my proposal and giving me this wonderful opportunity.
It would have been impossible for me to complete this project without the patient and detailed guidance of Jim and Rob.
This GSoC is ending but moja global has won a new contributor. I hope it's just the beginning of a long story.
